I am fortunate to be a volunteer state liaison for the Recreational Aviation Foundation, and also to serve as a volunteer airport manager at North Fox Island Airfield and the Two Hearted Airstrip for the RAF and the State of Michigan Department of Natural Resources.
General Aviation is the only way to access this special place in northern Lake Michigan, and safe aeronautical access is maintained by a small but dedicated team of volunteers. Without our dedicated volunteers, it would not be possible to camp, hike, experience, and explore this amazing place.

The Two Hearted River was immortalized in the writings of Earnest Hemingway. We celebrated the reopening of the Two Hearted Airstrip in 2023, 90 years after it was originally constructed by the Civil Conservation Corps. This technically challenging airstrip is best suited for rugged aircraft and pilots with backcountry experience, but we continue to improve it each year with the goal of making it safe for any aircraft and pilot skillset. These improvements are made possible through the donations and efforts of RAF supporters, and the patience and assistance of The Rainbow Lodge.
