In Michigan, we obsess over the northern part of the state, Michigan's upper peninsula in particular, and for good reason. It is amazingly beautiful with expansive beaches, boreal forests, bears, moose, mountains, hidden ponds with huge bass, and blue-ribbon trout streams.
My relationship with Northern Michigan is special to me. As I traveled the world, northern Michigan has always been my refuge from the stresses of life and where I go to rediscover myself and to stay connected with my family.
Like most in Michigan, I have my opinion on where north "starts", and for me, it is at the 45th parallel. This is where our family property is located and it is our launching-off point for more northern destinations in Michigan and Canada.
